Botox

Botox

Botox is an injectable treatment that is used to counter the signs of wrinkles in the skin. It is a purified type of botulinum toxin A which means there is no risk of botulism when used properly. When Botox is used, it blocks the nerves in the body that contract the muscles and softens the appearance of the wrinkles.

Botox should always be given by a professional and anyone who is planning on falling pregnant, already pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a medical doctor before using it. While there are some possible side effects to using Botox, there are far more advantages.

Botox was originally developed for the treatment of spasms, overactive eye spasms in particular, because of its muscle freezing capabilities. Shortly after, it was discovered that Botox minimized the appearance of superficial wrinkles, such as crow’s feet, in the face. This was because of the effects of the freezing muscles; the wrinkles became less emphasized. From there, a variety of other advantages of Botox were discovered.

Recognized Advantages of Botox Injections

One of the greatest advantages of Botox is its treatment of migraines. Migraine headache sufferers were discovered to have a vast reduction in pain without any side effects. The side effects of Botox are so minimal as opposed to the side effects of migraine headache medications that are taken on a regular basis. The true reason Botox reduces the pain of migraine headaches is not really known but almost all sufferers have noted a drastic difference.

Botox has also proven to be advantageous for sufferers of hyperhidrosis which is excessive sweating. This condition is usually treated with prescribed anti-perspirants but this form of treatment is only mildly effective. Botox has however managed to balance the underlying problem and relieve the excessive sweating for several months.

Another advantage of Botox which is currently being studied is the relief of certain arthritis aches. Initial studies have shown a huge decrease in arthritic pain and a notable improvement in the function of certain arthritis sufferers. The pain decreases have proven to last anything from three up to twelve months.
It is also proven that Botox has shown considerable relief to men suffering from enlarged prostates. Frequent urination and urinary tract infections have decreased with Botox injections given directly to the prostate gland.

Dysport as a Botox Alternative

Injectables have become quite popular around the world and while there are a few alternatives to Botox, Dysport is one of the best options. There is not much difference between the two as they both have the same function of reducing wrinkles. Dysport is also a type of botulinum toxin A but it is a smaller molecule which means its unit measurement differs.
Dysport possibly lasts less time than Botox but it does have a quicker onset time. Dysport spreads to wider areas around the injected spot but ultimately it does take larger amounts to get the same results that Botox gives. Dysport is neither better nor worse than Botox as its seen as a healthy competitor. The choice between the two entirely depends on personal preference and what is available.
